Denison 13, Ohio Wesleyan 8

Junior midfielder Jessica Copeland (Ligonier, Pa./Foxcroft (Va.)) scored twice to give Ohio Wesleyan an early 2-1 lead, but Denison finished the first half with a 5-1 run and held on to defeat the Bishops in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Sunday in Granville.

Copeland's second goal of the game broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Bishops a 2-1 lead with 18:56 left in the first half.

Denison tied the game on a goal by Alex Thurner, then took the lead with scores by Caroline Gully and Michelle Bennett.

Senior midfielder Hannah Mudge (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) scored to bring the Bishops within 4-3, but Denison's Phoebe Myhrum scored twice during the final 2 minutes of the half to give the Big Red a 6-3 lead at the break.

Denison carried that burst over into the second half, opening the period with scores by Sara Langsam, Lulu Carter, and Lisa Feroli to extend its lead to 9-3.

Ohio Wesleyan closed the gap to 9-5 with scores by sophomore midfielder Marlowe Mavian (Columbus/Wellington) and Mudge, but the Bishops would come no closer than that 4-goal margin.

Mudge led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Mavian and Copeland each scored twice.

Freshman Liz Searfos (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan crease, making 12 saves.

Myhrum, Bennett, Thurner, and Langsam scored 2 goals apiece for Denison.

Amanda Wilson was credited with 16 saves for the Big Red.
