Aug. 29, 2008

Freshman midfielder Lindsey Patton (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) scored to erase a 1-0 deficit, and freshman midfielder Jenny Howe (Newton, Mass./South) tallied the game-winning goal in overtime as Ohio Wesleyan defeated St. John Fisher in the championship game of the Fisher Tournament, hosted by St. John Fisher on Saturday in Pittsford, N.Y.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half as Kelly Zeppetella outran three Bishop defenders and scored.

Patton evened the game late in the first half, dribbling around a St. John Fisher defender and beating Cardinal keeper Ashley Martin in the 42nd minute.

After a scoreless second half, the Bishops ended the game in overtime. Ohio Wesleyan had earned a corner kick, and the ball came to the top of the box, where Howe settled it and deposited a shot into the back of the Cardinal net.

St. John Fisher outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 19-11. Sophomore Carly Topper (Novi, Mich./Greenhills) had 8 saves in the Bishop goal. Martin finished with 6 saves for the Cardinals.
