![]() Ohio Wesleyan 2, Thomas More 1 Sept. 26, 2008 Thomas More had a pair of good chances to score during the first half. In the 26th minute, Taylor Stoll hit a restart from about 25 yards out, with Bishop keeper leaping to bat the ball over the crossbar. In the 36th minute, the Saints had a flurry in front of the Ohio Wesleyan goal, with Brandi Carmichael running down a long ball and crossing to Megan Keck on the right side, who crossed back to Sara Harrison on the left side, but Harrison's shot was wide. With the game still scoreless midway through the second half, Ohio Wesleyan had a restart outside the Thomas More penalty area. Cozzone hit the ball toward the left post, and freshman midfielder Belle Madison (Charlevoix, Mich.) headed it home to put the Bishops ahead to stay. Ohio Wesleyan increased its lead to 2-0 when Cozzone ran down a long pass from sophomore midfielder Chelsea Keller (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy), made a run toward the Saint goal, and finished off the chance with exactly 11:00 left in regulation time. The Saints got on the scoreboard after sending the ball into the Ohio Wesleyan penalty area in the 85th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Laura VanHoey (Rochester, Mich.) came off her line to make the play but could not control the ball. Thomas More's Lauren Weitmarschen got a foot on it and tipped the ball toward the Bishop goal, and the ball bounced over with a pair of Bishop defenders in hot pursuit. That would be the Saints' last dangerous chance, however, as the Ohio Wesleyan defense held on to seal the verdict. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Thomas More, 21-8. VanHoey finished with 2 saves in the Bishop goal. Jenna Kramer had 8 saves for Thomas More. |
