![]() Ohio Wesleyan 1, Kenyon 1 Oct. 9, 2008 Cozzone put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard in the 26th minute. The play started when junior defender Megan Goodrich (Seven Hills/Laurel School) won the ball in the Bishop end and sent it to senior forward Michelle Corbett (Dublin/Scioto) at the midfield line. Corbett headed the ball ahead to Cozzone, who was off on a breakaway against Kenyon keeper Kat Powers, and Cozzone blistered a shot past Powers for the score. The Bishops had a good chance to take a 2-0 lead later the first half, first when freshman forward Makinzie Krebsbach (Vadnais Heights, Minn./Totino-Grace) ripped a shot that Powers saved in the 31st minute. Kenyon had an excellent chance off a restart with just under 6 minutes remaining in the half when Kelly Schorling's header was saved by Bishop keeper Laura VanHoey (Rochester, Mich.), and a follow shot by Katie Fee was wide. The Ladies had the first good chance of the second half on a cross from Amy Kessler to Shanna Keown, but Keown's shot hit from the right side hit the crossbar. Kessler had a look in the 78th minute, but her shot from a pack in front of the Bishop goal was saved by VanHoey. Shortly thereafter, the Ladies earned a corner kick, and Lindsay Watts passed it into the box to Flora Horvath, whose left-footed shot snuck inside the left post to tie the score with 10:54 remaining in regulation time. Kessler figured in another Kenyon scoring chance late in regulation, weaving between a pair of Ohio Wesleyan defenders to get off a shot in the 82nd minute, but VanHoey was there for the save. Cozzone countered with a pair of opportunities at the go-ahead goal, ripping a shot that Powers saved at the right post with 1:26 to go, then taking a pass from Corbett and firing a another shot that Powers stopped with :54 to play. After a relatively uneventful first overtime period, each team had a chance to end the game in the second overtime period. Kenyon had a restart in the Ohio Wesleyan end early in the stanza, with VanHoey leaving her line to break up the play. VanHoey went down in a collision with a Bishop defender on the play, but the rest of the Bishop defense filled in, deflecting Kessler's shot out of bounds for a Kenyon corner kick, which VanHoey collected and cleared. The Bishops had a couple of chances, with freshman midfielder Jenny Howe (Newton, Mass./South) winding up from 25 yards for a shot in the 105th minute, and sophomore midfielder Chelsea Keller (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) fielding a crossing pass from senior forward Megan Quinn (Hilliard/Columbus School for Girls) and getting off a shot in the 106th minute only to have Powers make the save and keep the game alive. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Kenyon, 22-19. VanHoey had 6 saves in the Bishop goal, while Powers finished with 10 saves. |
