at NCAC championship

[ Erin Hanahan ]Junior Erin Hanahan (Madison/Perry) won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors and junior Kendra Klossner (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) set a school record to lead Ohio Wesleyan on the first day of the NCAC championship meet on Thursday in Canton.

After the first day of competition, Denison was leading the meet with 533 1/2 points to 471 1/2 for Kenyon. Wittenberg was in third place with 272 points, followed by Allegheny (249), Wooster (199), Oberlin (179), Hiram (158), and Ohio Wesleyan (154).

Hanahan finished third in the 1-meter diving event, compiling a total of 334.70 points.

Klossner finished 10th in the 50 freestyle. Her time of :24.91 in the preliminaries broke the school record of :25.00 set by Laura Marean in 1995 and tied by Anna Ziegler in 2004. Klossner then bettered her school record with a performance of :24.90 in the finals.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Morgan Canup (Milford, Mich.), who placed 11th in the 1-meter diving; sophomore Marisa Obuchowski (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville), who was 20th in the 200 IM; and freshman Marina Metzler (Columbia, Md./Hammond), who placed 24th in the 50 freestyle.

The Bishop 200 freestyle relay team of Metzler, senior Megan Downing (Mentor/Gilmour Academy), freshman Kirstin Mowry (Centerville), and senior Katie Keleshian (Richmond Heights/Regina) finished eighth, as did the 400 medley relay team of Klossner, Downing, Metzler, and freshman Ali Russ (Shaker Heights).

The NCAC championship continues on Friday, with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and finals commencing at 6:30 p.m.
