at ITA Regional Tournament

[ Pam Quigney ]Sophomore Pam Quigney (Mentor), freshman Becky Simon (Hilliard/Darby), freshman Emily Kiourtsis (Pickerington/North) and freshman Mackenzie Conway (Marion/Pleasant) represented Ohio Wesleyan at the ITA Central Regional tournament, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday and Sunday.

Quigney defeated Alyssa Trampert of Baldwin-Wallace by scores of 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the open singles draw, then dispatched Smitha Gudipati of Kalamazoo in the round of 16 by scores of 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 on Saturday. She then lost a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Lizzy Whitlatch of DePauw in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Simon lost to Emily Pelosi of Baldwin-Wallace by scores of 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the open singles draw. She bounced back to defeat Marta Robertson of Oberlin, 8-3, in the first round of the consolation bracket on Saturday. On Sunday, Simon defeated Ashley Stockwell of Wooster by a count of 8-2 and outlasted Christa Hunter of Manchester, 8-6, to advance to the consolation final, where she lost to Jaclyn Mummaw of Olivet, 8-5.

Kourtsis defeated Andrea Essig of Baldwin-Wallace in the first round of the open singles draw by a score of 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday, but was defeated by Elissa Lauber of Wooster by scores of 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 in the round of 16.

In doubles action, Conway and Simon received a first-round bye and were defeated by Jayne Miely and Emily Nash of Wittenberg by an 8-2 score in the round of 16 of the open doubles draw. Conway and Simon then fell to Katy Marshall and Pelosi of Baldwin-Wallace by an 8-3 score in the consolation bracket quarterfinals on Sunday.
