Junior Sarah Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) won 2 events and helped a pair of relay teams to first-place finishes to lead Ohio Wesleyan to a second-place finish in a quadrangular meet on Friday at Gordon Field House.
Otterbein edged Ohio Wesleyan, 231-223, in the final standings, with Capital finishing in third place with 122 points and Kenyon scoring 23 points. The meet was the first intercollegiate event in Gordon Field House since the facility's refurbishment late last year and was Ohio Wesleyan's first home indoor meet since Feb. 1, 2002.
Shinn won the long jump with an effort of 16-1 1/2 and took the 800-meter run in 2:23.34. She combined with junior Ashlie Britton (LeRoy/Painesville Riverside), sophomore Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve), and sophomore Rachael Newman (Strongsville) to win the 800-meter relay in 1:51.51 and teamed with Kekic, Newman and sophomore Rowena Jones (Shutesbury, Mass./Amherst Regional) to win the 1600-meter relay in 4:14.38.
Also winning events for Ohio Wesleyan were sophomore Laura Packard (Mount Vernon), who won the pole vault by clearing 9-5 3/4; junior Sharon Rymut (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), who won the weight throw with a heave of 41-3 1/4; and freshman Emma Lisull (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills), who won the 3000-meter run in 11:11.94.
Other standouts for the Bishops included Newman, who was second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash; Jones, who placed second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 400-meter dash; freshman Chelsea Imm (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf), who was second in the pole vault; sophomore Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who finished second in the mile run; junior Amber Alegria (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic), who was second in the 500-meter run; junior Kara Reiter (Chardon), who finished second in the 800-meter run; Kekic, who placed third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump; freshman Hannah Phlipot (Van Wert), who placed third in the shot put; freshman Sam Smyth (Falmouth, Maine), who was third in the weight throw; freshman Deanna Breaux (Bossier City, La./Parkway), who finished third in the 500-meter run; and freshman Maggie O'Connell (Hingham, Mass), who was third in the 800-meter run.
The Bishop distance medley relay team of Lisull, Reiter, O'Connell and Zimmerly finished second in its event.
