at VMI/W&L Track & Field Carnival

[ Sarah Shinn ]Freshman Hannah Phlipot (Van Wert) won an event to lead Ohio Wesleyan at the VMI/W&L Track & Field Carnival, hosted by Virginia Military Institute and Washington & Lee on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Va.

The meet, which included competitors from Brooks, Carnegie Mellon, DeSales, Duquesne, Elizabethtown, Huntington, Lebanon Valley, Liberty, Longwood, Messiah, Northwood, Ohio Wesleyan, Southern Virginia, Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Wesleyan, and Washington & Lee, was not scored.

Phlipot won the shot put with a throw of 37- 1/2.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Sarah Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who finished second in the 800-meter run; junior Sharon Rymut (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), who was third in the discus and the hammer and ninth in the shot put; sophomore Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase; freshman Sam Smyth (Falmouth, Maine), who was fourth in the discus and 10th in the shot put; sophomore Christa Cocumelli (Dublin/Bishop Watterson), who was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles; sophomore Rachael Newman (Strongsville), who placed ninth in the 800-meter run; and sophomore Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve), who finished 10th in the 400-meter dash.

The Bishop 400-meter relay team of junior Ashlie Britton (LeRoy/Painesville Riverside), Cocumelli, sophomore Chardae Spencer (Willowick/Eastlake North), and Kekic finished eighth.
