at Denison Last Chance meet

[ Sharon Rymut ]Junior Sharon Rymut (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and sophomore Christa Cocumelli (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) won 2 events apiece as Ohio Wesleyan prepared for next week's North Coast Athletic Conference championship by competing in the Denison Last Chance meet, hosted by Denison University on Friday in Granville.

The meet, which included competitors from Denison, Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg, and Wooster, was not scored.

Rymut won the discus and the hammer with respective throws of 124-4 and 135-10.

Cocumelli won the 100- and 400-meter hurdles in respective times of :16.06 and 1:08.83.

Also winning events for Ohio Wesleyan were freshman Hannah Phlipot (Van Wert), who won the shot put with a throw of 38-9 3/4 and added a second in the javelin; sophomore Rowena Jones (Shutesbury, Mass./Amherst Regional), who won the 200-meter dash in :27.61 and placed fifth in the 100-meter dash; sophomore Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who won the 1500-meter run in 5:01.41; and junior Sarah Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), who won the 400-meter dash in :59.97.

Other standouts for the Bishops included sophomore Audra Pohlman (Delaware/Hayes), who placed second in the hammer and third in the shot put; sophomore Chardae Spencer (Willowick/Eastlake North), who was second in the triple jump and third in the long jump; sophomore Rachael Newman (Strongsville), who finished second in the 800-meter run; freshman Chelsea Imm (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf), who finished second in the pole vault; freshman Sam Smyth (Falmouth, Maine), who was third in the discus and fifth in the javelin; junior Kara Reiter (Chardon), who placed third in the 1500-meter run; sophomore Lindsay Dunbar (Marysville), who was third in the 400-meter dash; senior Valerie Sloboda (Columbia, Md./Atholton), who finished third in the 800-meter run; freshman Rachel King (Cuyahoga Falls), who was fourth in the hammer and fifth in the discus; and freshman Marissa Ballard (Columbus/Centerburg), who placed fourth in the long jump.
