at NCAC heptathlon

[ Jessica Merrill ]Senior Jessica Merrill (Columbia Station/Columbia) and sophomore Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve) were in second and fourth place respectively after the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference heptathlon competition on Saturday in Oberlin.

Oberlin's Madeline Schultz was leading the event with 2554 points to 2413 for Merrill. Wooster's Katelynn Riley was in third place with 2394 points, followed by Kekic with 2270 points.

Merrill had the day's best effort in the shot put with a throw of 29-9 1/4. Her time of :15.89 in the 100-meter hurdles was third, and her 4-10 1/4 high jump tied for third. Merrill finished the 200-meter dash in :28.17.

Kekic had the day's best time in the 200-meter dash, finishing in :26.01. Her 4-10 1/4 high jump tied for third, and she clocked an :18.14 in the 100-meter hurdles and threw 26-4 1/4 in the shot put.

The heptathlon competition concludes on Sunday with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.
