at NCAC heptathlon

[ Lainey Kekic ]Sophomore Lainey Kekic (Canfield/Western Reserve) won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in the heptathlon during the NCAC multi-event competition on Saturday and Sunday in Oberlin.

Oberlin's Madeline Schultz won the event with 4386 points, while Wooster's Katelynn Riley finished second with 3892 points. Kekic finished third with 3858 points, followed by senior Jessica Merrill (Columbia Station/Columbia) with 3814 points.

Kekic had the meet's best efforts in the 200-meter dash (:26.01) and the long jump (16-8 3/4) and was second-best in the 800-meter run (2:36.44). Her 4-10 1/4 high jump tied for third, and she clocked an :18.14 in the 100-meter hurdles, threw the shot 26-4 1/4, and threw the javelin 82-10.

Merrill had the day's best effort in the shot put with a throw of 29-9 1/4. Her time of :15.89 in the 100-meter hurdles was third, and her 4-10 1/4 high jump tied for third. Merrill finished the 200-meter dash in :28.17, went 15-0 in the long jump, threw the javelin 89-9, and finished the 800-meter run in 2:44.00.
