![]() at NCAC championship May 1, 2009 After the first day of competition, Ohio Wesleyan was leading the meet with 69 points to 45 for Denison. Allegheny and Oberlin were tied for third place with 28 points apiece, followed by Earlham (25), Wooster (21), Wittenberg (17), and Kenyon (0). Rymut won her third consecutive NCAC championship in the discus, taking the event with a throw of 118-0. She also added a fourth-place finish in the shot put. Kekic won the long jump with a leap of 16-3 1/2. She also won her heat in the 200-meter dash, turning in the meet's fastest time in the event at :26.52. Imm won the pole vault by clearing 10- 1/2. Phlipot won the shot put with a throw of 40- 1/2. Also taking All-NCAC honors was freshman Sam Smyth (Falmouth, Maine), who finished third in the shot put. Junior Sarah Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) placed fourth in the long jump, missing out on all-conference honors by a matter of millimeters. Shinn bounced back to win her heat in the 800-meter run, finishing in a time of 2:21.18. Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Rachel King (Cuyahoga Falls), who finished eighth in the discus; and senior Leah Schmelzer (Marion/Pleasant), who was eighth in the 10,000-meter run. There was one conference record set during Friday's soggy day of competition, that coming in the 10,000-meter run, where Denison's Katie Navarre finished in 36:01.69 to wipe out the mark of 36:16.01 set by Tina Chase of Allegheny in 1994.
