1st of 3 at Dayton Meijer Flyer 5K

Senior Leah Schmelzer (Marion/Pleasant) led Ohio Wesleyan at the Dayton Meijer Flyer 5K on Saturday at Indian Riffle Park in Dayton.

Ohio Wesleyan won the College Division meet with 22 points to 39 for Wittenberg. Rio Grande finished with 79 points and Urbana did not post a team score.

Schmelzer finished second among College Division individuals, clocking a time of 20:17 for the 5000-meter course.

Freshman Allie Nichols (Mansfield/Lexington) finished third in 20:25, senior Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) placed fourth in 20:31, sophomore Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) was sixth in 20:42, and freshman Maggie O'Connell (Hingham, Mass.) wrapped up the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a seventh-place finish in 20:42.

Sophomore Rachael Newman (Strongsville) was ninth in 20:52 and junior Claire Everhart (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) finished 10th in 20:54.
