4th of 23 at Otterbein Invitational

Senior Leah Schmelzer (Marion/Pleasant) led Ohio Wesleyan at the Otterbein Invitational, hosted by Otterbein College on Saturday in Westerville. The meet served as the "pre-regional" meet, allowing runners to compete on the course which will serve as the site of this year's NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional meet in November.

Case Reserve won the meet with 42 points to 83 for runner-up DePauw. Oberlin was third with 103 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (140), Baldwin-Wallace (165), Otterbein (169), Kenyon (194), Wittenberg (221) and Ashland (247). Manchester rounded out the top 10 team finishers with 275, followed by Denison (314), Wilmington (334), Wooster (352), Rose-Hulman (406), Cuyahoga Community College (448), Mount Union (457), Heidelberg (478), Capital (515), Thomas More (565), Mount Vernon Nazarene (627), Ohio Dominican (629), Muskingum (668) and Glenville State (691).

Schmelzer finished 14th among individuals, covering the 6000-meter course in 23:01.4.

Sophomore Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) finished 27th in 23:28.5, followed by freshman Allie Nichols (Mansfield/Lexington) in 28th place at 23:29.5. Sophomore Jesi Dackin (Reynoldsburg) placed 34th in 23:38.2 and senior Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) completed the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 46th-place finish in 23:47.0.

Freshman Emma Lisull (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) finished 52nd in 23:56.7 and sophomore Rachael Newman (Strongsville) was 53rd in 23:58.9.
