2nd of 9 at NCAC championship

Sophomore Kat Zimmerly (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane), freshman Allie Nichols (Mansfield/Lexington) and senior Leah Schmelzer (Marion/Pleasant) won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in leading the Bishops at the NCAC championship meet, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday in Oberlin.

Kenyon won the conference championship with a total of 65 points to 81 for Ohio Wesleyan. Oberlin was third with 87 points, followed by Wittenberg (99), Allegheny (100), Denison (132), Wooster (190), Earlham (226) and Hiram (250).

The second-place NCAC finish was the best for Ohio Wesleyan since 1988, when the Bishops finished as runner-up to Allegheny by a score of 35-44.

Zimmerly finished seventh among individuals, completing the 6000-meter course in 22:39.9, to earn first-team All-NCAC honors.

Nichols placed 12th in 23:00.5, followed by Schmelzer in 13th place at 23:02.2. Both runners received second-team all-conference citations.

Senior Laura Binkley (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) finished 24th in 23:26.3, and sophomore Jesi Dackin (Reynoldsburg) completed the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 25th-place finish in 23:35.1.

Junior Claire Everhart (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) was 31st in 23:49.8 and freshman Emma Lisull (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) finished 39th in 24:16.8.
