Rochester 4, Ohio Wesleyan 2

Sept. 5, 2009

[ Lilly Jianas ]Junior attacker Lilly Jianas (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Pembroke Hill) helped set up one goal and scored another, but a string of 4 consecutive Rochester goals helped the Yellowjackets to a non-conference win over the Bishops on Saturday in Rochester, N.Y.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. The Bishops had earned a penalty corner, and Jianas sent the ball to sophomore attacker Katie Carlin (Westwood, Mass.), with freshman midfielder Abbie Martin (Afton, N.Y./Central) finishing off the play for the goal.

Rochester answered just over 3 minutes later when Amanda Case hit the back of the Bishop cage from 12 yards out, and that was the way the first half would end.

The Yellowjackets took the lead in the 49th minute when Darragh Kerr passed to Shelby Hall, whose tip-in gave the hosts a 2-1 advantage.

Case followed with a goal from point-blank range in the 51st minute, and Allison Beardley hit a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner in the 53rd minute to extend the Rochester lead to 4-1.

Jianas blasted a 12-yard rocket into the Rochester cage to bring the Bishops within 4-2 with 7:35 left in regulation time, but that was as close as Ohio Wesleyan would come.

Rochester outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 15-9. Senior Krista Murray (Rochester Hills, Mich./University Liggett) was credited with 8 saves, while Danielle Pearson had 4 saves for the Yellowjackets.
