Sept. 12, 2009

[ Mimi Anthony ]Sophomore attacker Mimi Anthony (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook School) scored the game's only goal as Ohio Wesleyan opened its home schedule with a non-conference win over Lindenwood on Saturday at Selby Field.

The Bishops took the lead in the fifth minute. Junior attacker Christa Cocumelli (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) took the ball inside the circle and wound up for a shot against Lion keeper Caitlin Erickson. Erickson stopped the initial shot as well as Cocumelli's follow shot. The ball caromed to the right side to Anthony, who deposited it into the Lion cage for a 1-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Ohio Wesleyan had the edge in offensive play through the first half, outshooting the Lions, 9-0.

Lindenwood threatened in the second half when Kayleigh Harrower made a long run up the left side and got a look at the Ohio Wesleyan cage, but her shot was wide.

The Bishops threatened to ice the game in the closing minutes with a breakaway, but Erickson came out toward the top of the circle to break up the play. The ball went to sophomore attacker Abby Walsh (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville), but Lion defender Dayna Rabbitt cleared Walsh's shot to keep Lindenwood within 1-0.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Lindenwood, 11-2. Senior Krista Murray (Rochester Hills, Mich./University Liggett) was not tested in the Bishop goal, while Erickson finished with 4 saves for Lindenwood.
