Mary Kate Clodius scored twice to help Centre build a 3-0 first-half lead, and the Colonels went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference play on Thursday at Selby Field.

Centre took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play when Barbara Parks centered the ball from the right side to Clodius, who finished the chance in front of the Bishop cage.

The Colonels added to their lead in the eighth minute. Sally Faulkner's shot was saved by Ohio Wesleyan keeper Krista Murray (Rochester Hills, Mich./University Liggett), but Rachel Watkins was there to put the rebound into the back of the Bishop cage.

Sophomore attacker Katie Carlin (Westwood, Mass.) had a chance to bring the Bishops within 2-1, but her shot from the left side of the cage was stopped by Colonel keeper Patty Cowley.

Late in the first half, Sarah Jessee advanced the ball in from the right side, then sent a back pass to Clodius cutting up the middle. Clodius fielded the pass and scored to increase the Centre lead to 3-0 with 4:15 remaining in the period.

The Bishops threatened during the second half, collecting 6 penalty corners to 1 for Centre, but could not translate those chances into a goal until the closing minutes. Ohio Wesleyan had earned a penalty corner, but a foul on the Colonels resulted in the Bishops receiving a penalty stroke, with junior attacker Christa Cocumelli (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) converting the stroke to make it a 3-1 game.

Centre outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 11-10. Murray finished with 4 saves for the Bishops, while Cowley made 1 save in the Colonel cage.
