![]() Ohio Wesleyan 6, Oberlin 1 Oct. 21, 2009 The Bishops struck quickly, earning a penalty corner just over 2 minutes into the game. Junior attacker Lilly Jianas (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Pembroke Hill) had a pair of shots in traffic that Oberlin keeper Emily Bigelow stopped, but the third one was the charm as Anthony jumped on the rebound of the second save and scored 2:24 into the action. Jianas had better luck on her next chance, breaking in on Bigelow one-on-one and scoring to give the Bishops a 2-0 lead in the 10th minute. Oberlin closed to within 2-1 shortly thereafter as Sonya Kaufman sent the ball into the Ohio Wesleyan circle and Danielle Jungst tipped it inside the right post in the 14th minute. Anthony responded for the Bishops, taking a pass from junior attacker Christa Cocumelli (Dublin/Bishop Watterson) and tipping it into the Yeowomen goal to make it a 3-1 game in the 20th minute. Later in the half, Anthony would add a pair of goals 24 seconds apart. She broke in on Bigelow and scored with 9:41 left in the half, then had a shot from the right side of the Oberlin cage at the 9:17 mark. The 2-goal flurry made Anthony the first Ohio Wesleyan player to score 4 goals in a game since Oct. 15, 1996, when Lorin Iappaluccio had 4 against Earlham. Cocumelli wrapped up the Bishop scoring with a shot from right in front of the Oberlin cage in the first minute of the second half. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Oberlin, 32-8. Senior Krista Murray (Rochester Hills, Mich./University Liggett) had 2 saves for the Bishops, while Bigelow finished with 16 saves in the Oberlin cage. |
