[ Macie Miller ]Wooster's Brittany Montgomery scored on a breakaway late in the first half, and the Fighting Scots went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament championship game on Saturday in Wooster.

With the win, Wooster takes the NCAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Senior goalkeeper Krista Murray (Rochester Hills, Mich./University Liggett) made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless, first denying Wooster's Kate Valora just over 3 minutes into the game, then stopping Wooster's Amanda Artman midway through the first half.

Sophomore forward Abby Walsh (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) got a shot at the Wooster cage in the 25th minute, but Fighting Scot keeper Madalyn Myers made the save.

Wooster took the lead when Artman freed Brittany Montgomery on a breakaway, and Montgomery finished the chance with 1:18 left in the first half.

Walsh and junior attacker Lilly Jianas (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Pembroke Hill) had looks at tying the game during the second half, but their shots went wide of the Wooster cage.

Wooster outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 9-4. Murray had 3 saves in the Bishop cage, while Myers had 1 save for Wooster.

Junior attacker Christa Cocumelli (Dublin/Bishop Watterson), junior defender Hannah Coughlin (Dublin/Scioto), and sophomore defender Jen Doud (Collingswood, N.J.) represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.
