at NCAC Fall Invitational

[ Tommy Harman ]Senior Tommy Harman (Perrysburg) was leading Ohio Wesleyan after the first round of the NCAC Fall Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Delaware Golf Club.

Wittenberg was leading the tournament after the first day, with the Tigers' total of 291 leading Wabash by 13 shots. Ohio Wesleyan and Allegheny were tied for third place with 309 strokes, followed by Wooster (317), Kenyon (328), Denison (343), and Hiram (368).

The 36-hole event is the first of 4 regular-season tournaments which count toward determining the North Coast Athletic Conference's automatic qualifer for the NCAA Division III championships.

Harman was tied for fourth place among individuals with a 73.

Wittenberg's Ricky Boerner was leading the field with a 70, followed by Wabash's Sam Russell at 71 and Wittenberg's Ben Smith with a 72.

Senior Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) carded a 78, sophomore Caleb Chiero (Westerville/Central) and senior Peter Joyce (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) each had a 79, and sophomore Nate Fridley (Sidney/Lehman Catholic) shot an 85.

Ohio Wesleyan players competing as individuals included junior Scott Morris (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), who shot a 78; junior Thomas Fox (Galion) and freshman Mark Fischer (Garden City, N.Y.), each of whom had a 79; and senior Michael Sarap (Cambridge), who carded an 80.

The tournament's second round is scheduled for Sunday.
