at Hiram Fall Invitational

[ Jesse Chiero ]Senior Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) and senior Peter Joyce (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) were leading Ohio Wesleyan after the first round of the Hiram Fall Invitational, hosted by Hiram College on Saturday at Hawk's Nest Golf Club.

Wittenberg was leading the tournament after the first day, with the Tigers' total of 303 leading Ohio Wesleyan by 11 shots. Wooster was in third place with 318 strokes, followed by Allegheny (322), Wabash (327), Denison (330), Kenyon (347), and Hiram (378).

The 36-hole event is the second of 4 regular-season tournaments which count toward determining the North Coast Athletic Conference's automatic qualifer for the NCAA Division III championships.

Chiero and Joyce were tied for fifth place among individuals, each with a 76.

Wittenberg's Bradley Shepherd, playing as an individual, was leading the field with a 72, followed by teammates Craig Osterbrock in second place at 73 and Bleu George in fourth place at 75. Wooster's Blake Sword was in third plat with a 74.

Senior Tommy Harman (Perrysburg) and sophomore Nate Fridley (Sidney/Lehman Catholic) were tied for 19th place, each with an 81, and senior Michael Sarap (Cambridge) was tied for 25th place with an 82.

The tournament's second round is scheduled for Sunday.
