at Gordin-Myers Collegiate Classic

[ Jesse Chiero ]Senior Jesse Chiero (Westerville/South) was leading Ohio Wesleyan after the first 2 rounds of the Gordin-Myers Collegiate Classic, hosted by Duke University on Monday at The Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.

Methodist was atop the team standings with a 36-hole total of 589, with Skidmore in second place at 605. Huntingdon was in third place at 609, followed by Oglethorpe (617), LaVerne (629), Emory (635), and Ohio Wesleyan (646).

Kent Copeland of North Carolina State, competing as an individual, was leading the field with a one-under-par total of 143. Joseph Flowers of Skidmore and Brinson Paolini of Duke were tied for second place, each with an even-par 144.

Chiero was tied for 42nd place among individuals with a 159.

Senior Michael Sarap (Cambridge) was tied for 48th place at 161, senior Tommy Harman (Perrysburg) was in 58th place with a 164, senior Peter Joyce (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was in 59th place at 165, and sophomore Nate Fridley (Sidney/Lehman Catholic) was in 63rd place with a 167.

The Gordin-Myers Collegiate Classic is named in honor of former Ohio Wesleyan golf coach Dick Gordin and the late Rod Myers, longtime golf coach at Duke University. The tournament annually matches many of the top finishers from the previous spring's NCAA Division III championship tournament. This year, the format has included the addition of Division I players to the field, all competing as individuals.
