![]() Ohio Wesleyan 5, Ohio Northern 0 Sept. 23, 2009 Ohio Wesleyan struck quickly, taking a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play. Bonfini sent a pass to the left side of the box to sophomore midfielder Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington), who in turn sent the ball to Stone for a goal just 43 seconds into the action. The Bishops added to their lead in the closing minutes of the first half. Ohio Wesleyan had earned a corner kick, and junior back Brian Greene (Beavercreek) sent the ball into the penalty area. Senior back Phil Serfaty (Dublin/Jerome) kept the play alive with a header, and the ball went to junior midfielder Ryan Harmanis (Hilliard/Davidson), who headed it home for a 2-0 lead at the intermission. Ohio Wesleyan struck again early in the second half. With the Bishops awarded a free kick from about 40 yards out, Stone sent the ball to junior back Eric Laipple (Westerville/South), who found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Less than 3 minutes later, Bonfini fielded a centering pass from senior midfielder Blake Pifer (Fleming/Ada) and hit a sliding shot from right in front of the Polar Bear goal to give the Bishops a 4-0 lead. Pifer also set up the Bishops' fifth goal, sending a lead pass to free up senior forward Sam Striler (St. Louis, Mo./Country Day) on a breakaway. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Ohio Northern, 20-12. Freshman Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) had 2 saves for the Bishops, while Mac Church finished with 3 saves for the Polar Bears. |
