[ Matt Bonfini ]Sophomore forward Matt Bonfini (Dublin/Coffman) set up a pair of first-half goals and junior back Eric Laipple (Westerville/South) added a goal and an assist during the second half as third-ranked Ohio Wesleyan opened its North Coast Athletic Conference title defense with a win over Earlham on Saturday in Richmond, Ind.

Bonfini set up junior forward Tyler Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) for a goal that gave the Bishops a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of play. The game-winner was Wall's second in the Bishops' last 3 games, and his third of the season.

Less than 6 minutes later, Bonfini fed senior midfielder Jordan Halloran (Springfield/Catholic Central) for a score that gave the Bishops a 2-0 lead.

Laipple added an unassisted goal early in the second half, then set up sophomore midfielder Travis Wall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) for a goal in the 54th minute to wrap up the day's scoring.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Earlham, 23-7. Freshman Paul Hendricks (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) had 3 save for the Bishops, while Jonah Kreniske finished with 6 saves for the Quakers.
