Wittenberg 124½, Ohio Wesleyan 96½

[ David Gatz ]Senior David Gatz (Delaware/Hayes) won 2 events and helped a relay team take another win to lead Ohio Wesleyan in a dual meet against North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wittenberg on Friday at Pfeiffer Natatorium.

Gatz won the 200 IM in 2:04.34 and took the 100 breaststroke in :58.59. His time in the 100 breaststroke missed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III championship meet by 7/100 of a second. Gatz also combined with sophomore Jesse Sheldon (Mansfield/Ontario), freshman David Reitan (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon), and sophomore Evan Huddleson (Westerville/Central) to win the 200 medley relay in 1:40.50.

Sheldon and sophomore Nate Eckersley (Cleveland/Mayfield) also won events for Ohio Wesleyan. Eckersley won the 1000 freestyle in 10:38.53 and added a second in the 500 freestyle, while Sheldon won the 100 backstroke in :57.40 and placed third in the 50 freestyle.

Other standouts for the Bishops included senior Chris Potterton (Needham, Mass.), who finished second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle; senior Kevin Fahey (Delaware/Hayes), who was third in the 200 freestyle; Reitan, who placed third in the 100 butterfly; Huddleson, who was third in the 100 freestyle; senior Brad Russell (Delaware/Hayes), who placed third in the 1-meter diving; and freshman Jacob Perl (Mansfield/Senior), who finished third in the 100 breaststroke.

The Bishop 200 freestyle relay team of Fahey, Reitan, sophomore Michael Gatz (Delaware/Hayes), and Perl placed second in its event.
