[ Kristin Kovach ]Freshman outside hitter Meg Weissenberger (Toledo/Central Catholic) and junior outside hitter Kristin Kovach (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense in a non-conference loss to John Carroll on Tuesday in University Heights.

John Carroll won the match by scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-17.

Junior setter Sarah Marshall (Lima/Senior) pounded out a pair of kills as Ohio Wesleyan took a 21-19 lead in the first set, but the Blue Streaks struck back to score 6 straight points to finish out the set, with MaryEileen Dalton and Laura Sudo contributing kills during that run.

The second set saw John Carroll race to a 6-1 lead, with Meredith McDiarmid collecting 2 kills and Dalton another along the way. Kovach had 2 kills and Weissenberger added one as the Bishops rallied to within 8-6, but the Blue Streaks pulled away from there for the win.

John Carroll took an early lead in the third set, moving to a 9-2 advantage with the help of a pair of Dalton kills and a pair of aces by Kerry Fox. Ohio Wesleyan again rallied, cutting the margin to 16-11, but that was as close as the Bishops would come.

Weissenberger led the Bishops with 9 kills, with Kovach right behind with 8 kills. Marshall finished with 23 assists and junior outside hitter Alexa Bean (Columbus/Upper Arlington) had a team-leading 15 digs.
