![]() Ohio Wesleyan 2, Medaille 1 Sept. 5, 2009 The Bishops had the first good scoring chance of the game when sophomore forward Makinzie Krebsbach (Vadnais Heights, Minn./Totino-Grace) had an open look in the 13th minute, but her shot from the left side hit the right post and was cleared. The Maverick defense would continue to thwart the Bishops throughout the first half, with goalkeeper Brittany DeBole making 5 saves during the period to keep the game scoreless. Held without a shot for the first 44-plus minutes of play, Medaille made its first shot of the game count when Laura Freeman weaved up the middle of the Bishop defense and put a shot into the left side of the net with :02 remaining in the half. Ohio Wesleyan evened the game in the 69th minute. The Bishops had earned a corner kick, and senior defender Megan Goodrich (Brecksville/Laurel School) sent the ball into the penalty area to a sliding Madison, whose tip-in found the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game. Five minutes later, Madison sent the ball to Huschart in the middle of the field, and Huschart's 30-yard shot slipped just under the crossbar and over DeBole for a 2-1 Ohio Wesleyan lead. Medaille had a couple of scoring chances down the stretch, but freshman Margot Klepetko (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings), making her first collegiate start in goal, protected the Ohio Wesleyan lead. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Medaille, 30-5. Klepetko finished with 2 saves, while DeBole had 9 saves for the Mavericks. |
