DePauw 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1

Sept. 20, 2009

[ Carly Topper ]Junior midfielder Carly Topper (Novi, Mich./Greenhills) scored to erase a 1-0 deficit, but DePauw scored with 6:09 left in regulation time to escape with a non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action on Sunday at Roy Rike Field.

The Tigers had taken a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Julia Drummond sent a corner kick to the left post and Emelie Johnson was there to head the ball home.

Freshman forward Sarah Hoffman (Middletown, Md./Gettysburg (Pa.)) nearly tied the game midway through the half, sending a laser toward the DePauw goal, but her shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced straight down, allowing Tiger keeper Lauren Palfrey to gather the ball and clear it away.

Palfrey made an outstanding play to preserve the lead in the 29th minute. Topper was on the receiving end of a crossing pass in the DePauw penalty area, and her header looked like it was headed inside the right post when Palfrey dove and batted the shot wide.

Topper would have more success on her next chance. Sophomore forward Makinzie Krebsbach (Vadnais Heights, Minn./Totino-Grace) sent the ball to Topper inside the DePauw penalty area, and Topper sidestepped a DePauw defender before sending a shot into the right side of the Tiger goal.

The Bishop defense made a pair of plays to keep the game tied, with sophomore defender Caitlin Zeller (Cuyahoga Falls) clearing the ball out of the goal mouth after freshman goalkeeper Margot Klepetko (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) came off her line to play an entry pass only to see the ball bounce over her head, and senior defender Megan Goodrich (Brecksville/Laurel School) clearing the ball off the line in the 84th minute.

DePauw got the game-winner with 6:09 left in regulation time when Alexandra Ehr crossed the ball in from the right side, and the ball skimmed off Klepetko's hands and across to Kelly Kohlndorfer, who scored into the empty net.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot DePauw, 21-10. Klepetko finished with 4 saves for the Bishops. Palfrey had 6 saves during the first half, and Caroline Kerr made 2 saves during the second half for DePauw.
