![]() Ohio Wesleyan 2, Hiram 1 Oct. 14, 2009 The Bishops assembled a few chances to take the lead in the early going. In the 10th minute, junior forward Erica Lowell (Bay Village/Bay) sent a through ball that freed Krebsbach on a breakaway, but Terrier keeper Emily Bristol came out near the top of the box and blocked Krebsbach's shot. Krebsbach was off on another breakaway in the 21st minute, but while her shot cleared the onrushing Bristol, it also sailed over the crossbar. Bristol also denied junior midfielder Carly Topper (Novi, Mich./Greenhills), who took a lead pass in the 39th minute and was off on a breakaway only to have Bristol come out and make the save. Hiram took the lead shortly thereafter when Caitlin Fortson jumped on a loose ball in the Ohio Wesleyan end and slipped a shot inside the right post with 3:20 left in the first half. Ohio Wesleyan evened the game early in the second half when Keller won the ball in the Hiram end and sent a shot from the right side that hit the left post and bounced into the Terrier goal. The Bishops took the lead in the 60th minute when senior defender Megan Goodrich (Brecksville/Laurel School) sent a long ball ahead to Krebsbach, who broke in one-on-one with Bristol and found the back of the net. The Ohio Wesleyan defense took over from there, holding the Terriers without a shot for over 40 minutes during the second half. Hiram did get a good look at tying the game as Claire Conner broke in toward the top of the penalty area, but her shot was grabbed by freshman Margot Klepetko (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) to preserve the lead with 1:15 left in regulation time. Ohio Wesleyan outshot Hiram, 19-6. Klepetko made 2 saves for the Bishops, while Bristol finished with 6 saves for the Terriers. |
