![]() Earlham 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1 Oct. 31, 2009 The win allowed Earlham to move ahead of Ohio Wesleyan in the NCAC standings and claim the final spot in next week's conference tournament. Ohio Wesleyan took an early lead after earning a corner kick 3 minutes into the game. Senior defender Megan Goodrich (Brecksville/Laurel School) sent the ball into the penalty area from the right corner, sophomore midfielder Belle Madison (Charlevoix, Mich.) headed the ball across the box, and Keller finished with a shot from the left side. The Bishops had a couple of chances to extend the lead, but Earlham keeper Megan Holthaus twice made outstanding saves on shots by junior forward Erica Lowell (Bay Village/Bay), first in the 13th minute and again just 3 minutes later. Holthaus also snared a Keller shot in the 20th minute to keep the game at 1-0. Freshman Margot Klepetko (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) made a spectacular stop of her own, diving to bat away a shot by Earlham's Evelyn Tandy in the 34th minute. Klepetko stopped another Tandy shot midway through the second half to protect the lead. The Quakers evened the game in the 71st minute when Karman Duchon made a run into the box from the left side, then centered the ball to Joy Doucette to finish from the right side. Duchon set up the go-ahead goal for Earlham as well, sending a pass ahead to Callie Thompson, who tucked the ball inside the right post to give the Quakers the lead with 6:24 to play. Earlham outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 19-14. Klepetko finished with 4 saves for the Bishops, while Holthaus finished with 6 saves for the Quakers. |
