7th of 8 at NCAC Relays

[ Randi Savage ]Sophomore Randi Savage (Delaware/Hayes), sophomore Jill Simpson (Westerville/North), sophomore Marina Metzler (Columbia, Md./Hammond), and junior Marisa Obuchowski (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville) recorded the best finish by a Bishop swimming relay team as Ohio Wesleyan opened its season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays meet hosted by Kenyon College on Saturday in Gambier.

The annual lidlifter of the swimming season, the meet consists of relay events and is scored similarly to the conference championship meet. Denison won the meet with 188 points to 158 for runner-up Kenyon. Wooster finished third with 128 points, followed by Wittenberg (110), Allegheny (104), Oberlin (82), Ohio Wesleyan (66) and Hiram (38).

Savage, Simpson, Metzler, and Obuchowski combined to finish 11th in the 200 breaststroke relay.

Senior Kendra Klossner (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), freshman Emilie Schachtner (Williamsville, N.Y./East), Simpson, and sophomore Anne McComas (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves) placed 12th in the 200 backstroke relay; sophomore Ali Russ (Shaker Heights), Klossner, Obuchowski, and Metzler finished 12th in the 200 butterfly relay and 14th in the 400 IM relay; Russ, sophomore Holly Gilbert (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), and Schachtner teamed up for a 16th-place finish in the 1500 freestyle relay; Simpson, Obuchowski, Russ, and Klossner finished 18th in the 200 medley relay; and Schachtner, McComas, Russ, and Klossner were 20th in the 200 freestyle relay.

Senior Erin Hanahan (Madison/Perry) and sophomore Morgan Canup (Milford, Mich.) combined to finish second in the 1-meter diving relay.
