[ Evan Hitchcock ]Junior Evan Hitchcock (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) led the Bishops as 29th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan opened its season in a quadrangular meet against North Coast Athletic Conference rivals Kenyon and Denison and non-conference foe Mount Vernon Nazarene on Thursday in Gambier.

The meet was not scored.

Hitchcock finished 14th overall, completing the 5000-meter course in 17:39.99. He led a pack of Bishop runners across the finish line, with junior Nathan Kafity (Huron/Lake Ridge Academy) following in 15th place in 17:40.21, senior Kale Booher (Covington/Newton) crossing in 16th place in 17:40.52, and senior Sharif Kronemer (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) finishing 17th in 17:40.65.

Junior Tyler Tomazic (Medina/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) placed 25th in 18:33.98.

Freshman Josh Denison (Duvall, Wash./Cedarcrest) was 29th in 19:06.05, followed by sophomore Chris Henchey (Melrose, Mass.) in 30th place in 19:06.09; sophomore Ian McCaslin (Prospect, Ky./Saint Xavier) in 31st place in 19:06.57; and freshman Landon Erb (Hilliard/Darby) in 32nd place in 19:06.99.
