Wilmington was in third place with 437 points, followed by Urbana (234) and Lake Erie (169). McComas won the 200 backstroke in 2:19.20 and finished second in the 100 backstroke. Ward won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.27, placed third in the 200 IM, finished fourth in the 200 backstroke, and tied for fourth in the 100 backstroke. Zola won the 100 freestyle in :57.17 and finished third in the 200 freestyle. McComas and Ward also teamed with sophomore Katie Helfrich (Marysville) and sophomore Olivia Gillison (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central) to win the 200 medley relay in 1:55.71, and combined with sophomore Jennifer Erichsen (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) and freshman Maggie Helfrich (Marysville) to place third in the 800 freestyle relay. Other standouts for the Bishops included Katie Helfrich, who placed second in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and fifth in the 200 IM; Erichsen, who was second in the 200 freestyle, third in the 500 freestyle, and fourth in the 100 freestyle; senior Marina Metzler (Columbia, Md./Hammond), who placed second in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 200 butterfly; senior Morgan Canup (Milford, Mich.), who was second in the 1-meter diving; Gillison, who placed third in the 100 freestyle and tied for fourth in the 100 backstroke; and freshman Kelsey Kirby (Sioux Falls, S.D./Ogorman), who was fourth in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. The Bishop 400 freestyle relay team of Maggie Helfrich, senior Ali Russ (Shaker Heights), Erichsen, and Zola finished second in its event. The Corbiere/Merion Invitational honors the memory of Payson Corbiere '96 and T'ai Merion '96, who were members of the Ohio Wesleyan men's swimming team. The meet will conclude on Sunday. |
