2nd of 9 at NCAC championship

[ Cara DeAngelis ]Sophomore Cara DeAngelis (Norton/Ellet) won the individual championship in leading Ohio Wesleyan to a second-place team finish at the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by Wittenberg University on Saturday in Yellow Springs.

Oberlin ran off with the team title, outscoring Ohio Wesleyan by a margin of 32-103. DePauw finished third with 111 points, followed by Kenyon (117), Wittenberg (123), Allegheny (136), Wooster (142), Denison (153), and Hiram (290).

DeAngelis won the race, finishing the 6000-meter course in a time of 22:10.7. She is Ohio Wesleyan's first individual champion since 1988, when Tara Craig won the NCAC title. DeAngelis was a first-team All-NCAC honoree for the second consecutive year. She finished fifth in last year's race.

Freshman Hannah Sampson (Kent/Roosevelt) and senior Emma Lisull (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) also won All-NCAC honors, Sampson finishing 16th in 23:35.2 and Lisull placing 18th in 23:47.1 to claim honorable mention All-NCAC citations.

Freshman Katie Reid (Marion/Harding) was 23rd in 24:02.7, and junior Emily Johnson (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) rounded out the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 52nd-place finish in 25:20.0.

Freshman Alex Tavenier (Elizabeth City, N.C./Northeastern) was 71st in 26:32.9, and junior Madeleine Wright (Hermitage, Tenn./Hume Fogg Academic) was 73rd in 26:38.9.
