Duffy Named Ohio Wesleyan Women's Lacrosse Coach

July 11, 2008

[ Julie Duffy ]DELAWARE, OHIO -- Julie Duffy, assistant women's lacrosse coach at Ithaca (N.Y.) College, has been named head coach of the women's lacrosse team at Ohio Wesleyan University, it was announced by athletics director Roger Ingles.

"I'm really excited to be at the helm of this program," Duffy said. "There is a strong tradition I'm looking forward to continuing. I can see this program winning more North Coast Athletic Conference championships and going farther in the NCAA (playoffs). I like where this program has been and where it has the potential to go."

Duffy replaces Marge Redmond, who served as interim coach during the 2008 season, guiding the Battling Bishops to the NCAC championship and an NCAA Division III playoff appearance.

"I think Julie is one of the most dynamic young coaches I've come across in many years, and that she'll have an extremely positive impact on our women's lacrosse program," Ingles said. "What she lacks in years of experience she more than makes up for in enthusiasm and energy. I'm particularly excited about her willingness to get involved in the local community and help develop the sport of girls lacrosse."

Duffy was an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Ithaca during the 2007-08 academic year. She was active in developing and managing practices, recruiting, and maintaining budget operations.

She made her coaching debut during the summer of 2005, guiding the Western Massachusetts team in the Bay State Games. During her 3-year stint, she led the Western Massachusetts team to a gold medal in 2006 and a silver medal in 2007. In the summer of 2006, she also served as head coach for the Eastern Massachusetts U-15 girls state team.

Duffy is a 2007 graduate of Hartwick (N.Y.) College, where she was a member of the women's lacrosse team for 4 years. She started all 16 games during her junior year, helping the team win the NYSWCAA championship. Sidelined by an injury during her sophomore season, she served as a student assistant coach, assisting with practices and recruiting, which led her to seek the Bay State Games position.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Duffy is scheduled to complete her master's degree in sport psychology from Ithaca this summer.

Duffy is a native of Westhampton, Mass.
