Coach Dick Meyer

[ Laura Finkes ]1923-2008

Dick Meyer, former assistant baseball coach at Ohio Wesleyan, died on Monday. He was 85.

Meyer was inducted into the Ohio Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. He served as an assistant baseball coach at Ohio Wesleyan for 19 seasons.

Meyer came to Ohio Wesleyan in 1984 after a Hall of Fame career as a baseball and basketball coach at nearby Radnor and Buckeye Valley High Schools. He served in virtually every capacity in helping the Bishop baseball program's resurgence from an 8-23 record in 1984 to a school-record 17 wins (breaking the school mark of 14 set by Branch Rickey's 1904 team) in 1985 and a conference championship in 1986, Ohio Wesleyan's first league title since 1969.

At Ohio Wesleyan, he was a part of 7 NCAC champion baseball teams and helped the Bishop baseball team reach the NCAA Division III playoffs 13 times.
