Tyler
Mott was named interim
head baseball coach at Ohio Wesleyan University on July 31, 2007.
Mott will coach the Battling Bishops for the 2008 season, with a national
search for the position to take place during the 2007-08 academic year.
Mott served as pitching coach at Marietta for the past 3 seasons.
He helped the Pioneers win the 2006 NCAA Division III championship and
make a return appearance in the Division III World Series in 2007.
"It's a dream come true," Mott said. "Ohio Wesleyan has been a special
place for me since my freshman year in college. I had a chance to coach
at Marietta and learn a lot, and the timing worked out well. I couldn't
ask for a better situation. Coach Ingles started a great tradition, and
I'm honored to be able to carry it on."
Mott is a 2004 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan. During his Battling Bishop playing
career, he earned first-team All-America honors after batting .408 and
compiling a 12-1 record in 2003. He was a 4-time all-region selection
and earned All-NCAC honors at pitcher, first base, third base and designated
hitter. He continued his education while at Marietta, earning a master
of arts in liberal learning in 2006.
Mott takes over a Battling Bishop baseball team that won the North Coast
Athletic Conference championship in 2007, sweeping a doubleheader from
then-top-ranked Wooster in the finals of the NCAC tournament. The Bishops
finished with a 27-16 record, and lost only 2 players from that team to
graduation.
"I'm very fortunate to be able to coach the caliber of players we have
at Ohio Wesleyan," Mott said. "Having had a chance to watch them the last
3 years, I know there's a solid nucleus coming back. I think we can continue
to do good things, and maybe win another NCAC championship."
Mott is a native of Grove City, Ohio,
and attended Grove City High School.
