[ Tyler Mott ] Tyler Mott returns for his third season as head baseball coach at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Last year, the Bishops won the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division crown and finished with a 24-16 overall record.

Mott had a spectacular season in his head coaching debut, guiding the Bishops to a 29-19 record, the team’s second straight NCAC championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs. His colleagues recognized his accomplishments by voting him NCAC Coach of the Year.

A 2004 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan, Mott served as pitching coach at Marietta College for 3 seasons before returning to his alma mater. He helped the Pioneers win the 2006 NCAA Division III championship and make a return appearance in the Division III World Series in 2007.

“It’s a dream come true,” Mott said. “Ohio Wesleyan has been a special place for me since my freshman year in college. I had a chance to coach at Marietta and learn a lot, and the timing worked out well. I couldn’t ask for a better situation. Coach Ingles started a great tradition, and I’m honored to be able to carry it on.”

During his Battling Bishop playing career, Mott earned first-team All-America honors after batting .408 and compiling a 12-1 record in 2003. He was a 4-time all-region selection and earned All-NCAC honors at pitcher, first base, third base and designated hitter. He continued his education while at Marietta, earning a master of arts in liberal learning in 2006.

“I’m very fortunate to be able to coach the caliber of players we have at Ohio Wesleyan,” Mott said.

Mott is a native of Grove City, Ohio, and attended Grove City High School.
