Senior righthander Shaun Burchett (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) fired a one-hitter and junior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby) and junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) drove in 3 runs apiece to lift Ohio Wesleyan over Benedictine in Game 4 of the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on Friday at Littick Field on the Ohio Wesleyan campus in Delaware, Ohio.

Ohio Wesleyan advances to the regional championship game at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Benedictine will play Anderson in the losers bracket final at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with the winner of that game advancing to play Ohio Wesleyan.

Burchett and Eagle starter Brad Astrouski matched zeroes through the first 4 innings. Burchett allowed a one-out single in the first inning by Ryan Buchanan, and after Eric Lovitsch reached on a two-out error, Burchett retired the next 12 batters he faced.

Astrouski faced the minimum through 4 innings, getting one Bishop baserunner erased on a double play in the second and another thrown out trying to advance to second on a ball in the dirt around home plate.

Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the fifth as senior designated hitter Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy) led off with a walk and senior third baseman Mark Wherry (Dublin/Scioto) followed with a single up the middle. Senior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan) tried to bunt the runners over, but Astrouski got off the mound quickly to field the bunt and was able to force Burnett at third base. Albert and Schultheis followed with consecutive RBI singles and senior shortstop Joe Deck (Waverly) lofted a sacrifice fly to score Albert for a 3-0 Bishop lead.

The Bishops broke the game open with 4 runs in the sixth. With one out, junior first baseman Tyler Mott (Grove City) singled, and one out later, Wherry singled Mott over to second. Falk followed with a single to right, scoring Mott, and took second base when Eagle first baseman Buchanan threw wildly after cutting off the throw from rightfield. Albert followed with a 2-run striple to right and scored on a single by Schultheis for a 7-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Schultheis added an RBI single in the eighth and Mott and Wherry had run-scoring singles in the ninth for the 10-0 final.

Burchett allowed more than one baserunner in only one inning after the first and finished with 13 strikeouts while walking three.

Astrouski was charged with the loss after allowing 7 hits and 6 runs in 5.2 innings.

Schultheis was 4-for-4 with 3 RBI for Ohio Wesleyan, while Mott and Wherry collected 3 hits apiece. Albert had 2 hits and 3 RBI.
