Ohio Wesleyan Rallies to Win
NCAC Golf Championship

Senior Chad Poling (Delaware/Hayes) shot a second-round 71 to win medalist honors and lead Ohio Wesleyan to the North Coast Athletic Conference championship at the NCAC tournament on Friday and Saturday at Dornoch Golf Club in Delaware.

Ohio Wesleyan carded a second-round 295 to win the tournament with a score of 607, defeating second-place Denison by 14 shots. Allegheny finished third with a 622, followed by Wittenberg (630), Wabash (658), Wooster (659), Kenyon (664), Oberlin (678) and Hiram (708).

Friday's Results

Poling finished with a 147, defeating Allegheny's Darren Eades by one shot for medalist honors. It marked the fifth consecutive tournament in which Poling was the medalist. He won the Muskingum Invitational with a school-record 137 on March 26-27, won medalist honors in a playoff after finishing with a 145 at the Denison Invitational on April 9-10, then won the Wooster Invitational with a 146 at the Wooster Invitational on April 16-17. He shared medalist honors with a 149 at the OWU/Strimer Invitational on April 24-25.

Poling received the Bob Nye Award as tournament medalist and the Dick Gordin Award as NCAC Player of the Year as voted upon by the conference coaches.

Sophomore Justin Schroeder (Shelby) also was a first-team All-NCAC selection after finishing in a tie for third place with a 151.

Completing the All-NCAC first team were Eades of Allegheny, Andy Bonar of Wittenberg and Andy Van Horn of Wooster.

Senior Adam Pry (Bucyrus/Shelby) received second-team All-NCAC honors with a sixth-place tie at 152.

Also receiving second-team All-NCAC honors were Fred Waddell of Denison, Ben Rathfon of Allegheny, Craig Eckerle of Denison, Ed Geschke of Oberlin and Adam Klein of Denison.

Senior Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) finished in a tie for 12th place at 158, and
sophomore Doug McCullough (Sleepy Hollow, Ill./St. Edward) finished in 21st place with a 164.

Jon Whithaus of Ohio Wesleyan was voted NCAC Coach of the Year by the conference coaches.

Saturday's final round was played under partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid- to high 70s.
