Construction
Begins On Selby Field Renovation
June, 2006
DELAWARE,
OHIO -- When
workers descended on Selby Field in May, it marked the beginning of one
of the most visible projects of Ohio Wesleyan University's Remembering
Mr. Rickey campaign.
Within two weeks, the grass field upon which Ohio Wesleyan athletes competed
for decades was gone and the space was being prepared for the installation
of an Omni Grass playing surface. The artificial surface was made possible
by a lead gift from Morty Bouchard '80.
"We have played on multiple turf surfaces during the last three years,
and we found (Omni Grass) to be the best and safest we've played on,"
said Mike Hollway, Ohio Wesleyan football coach. "Technologically, it's
the most superior product that we evaluated."
Roger Ingles, Ohio Wesleyan athletics director, agreed. "Our teams have
played on (Omni Grass) and it was one of the most highly recommended by
our student-athletes. We felt (Omni Grass) gave us the best mix of surface
quality, durability and safety for our athletes."
