[ Jon Whithaus ]Eleventh-year head coach Jon Whithaus has returned the Ohio Wesleyan golf program to the glory days it enjoyed during his playing career, when the Battling Bishops were in the midst of a string of 4 straight North Coast Athletic Conference titles and 3 straight top-3 finishes in the NCAA Division III championship.

Last spring, the Bishops finished third at the NCAA Division III tournament, capping a season in which they won their sixth NCAC title in 8 years. Ohio Wesleyan has re-established sustained excellence at the national level by competing in 5 of the last 6 NCAA championships, finishing seventh or better each time.

The 2006 Bishops finished in a sixth-place tie at the NCAA Division III tournament. Ohio Wesleyan shares the best combined finish in the nation in the 2006 and 2007 national championship tournaments.

In 2005, Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAC championship for the fifth time in 6 seasons. The 2004 Bishops finished seventh at the NCAA Division III championship tournament. Ohio Wesleyan's Chad Poling won medalist honors at the NCAA Division III tournament that year, giving the Bishops their first-ever national champion in golf.

In 2003, the Bishops won the NCAC title and tied for third place at the NCAA Division III championship. The 2002 squad won 4 tournaments, including the NCAC championship, and placed seventh at the NCAA Division III championship.

The 2000 Bishops won the NCAC championship, their first under Whithaus. In 1999, Ohio Wesleyan tied for eighth place at the NCAA Division III championship. In 1998, Whithaus' first season as head coach, the Bishops returned to the NCAA Division III tournament after missing 3 of the previous 4 national championship events.

Whithaus has been named NCAC Coach of the Year 5 times, receiving that honor in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

Whithaus, who was an assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan for 2 seasons before taking over the head position, is just the fifth Battling Bishop golf coach since 1948.

A Findlay, Ohio, native, Whithaus is a 1991 Ohio Wesleyan graduate. He was a 2-time All-NCAC honoree and won 3 letters in golf during his Bishop career. He helped the Bishops to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III championship as a sophomore, at the time Ohio Wesleyan's best-ever finish in the national tournament, and then helped the Bishops top that finish with a second-place tie in 1990.

Whithaus serves as director of the Central Ohio Golf Academy and as a teaching professional at nearby Oakhaven Golf Club. He also serves as a committee member for the Gordin Collegiate Classic, one of the most prestigious Division III tournaments in the nation.

An instructor in the Ohio Wesleyan physical education department, Whithaus received his master's degree in sports and exercise education from The Ohio State University in 1997.
